MHARO JAN HAQ YATRA

The north region inauguration of NAFRE Jan Haq Yatra was celebrated in Jaipur Rajasthan on 23rd January 2008. State Alliance of Rajasthan "Jan Morcha", is a people centric alliance with presence in all 33 districts of the state.
Rajasthan is a land that lives upto the diverse and varied character of our nation. The Aravali Range runs a defining line across the state with dry and arid conditions manifested in the Thar desert in Western Rajasthan and undulating hilly topography in the southern and eastern region. The stark variance in topography of the state is also witness to glaring variances in functioning of the government machinery in making available goods and services. Demographically and socio-culturally there is huge diversity in the state. It is believed that the dialect changes every 100 kms! the gap in services and economic sustainability when compaired with Thar in Western Rajasthan, hills in Southern Rajasthan,barren stretches in Northern and North west region gives rise to different cultural practices and livelihood options. The development induced displacement is remarkably becoming menance in terms of land and natural resource control by people with shift towards privatisation and corporate control (neo liberal economic reforms dictating chage in pattern of state withdrawl has been guided by corporate interest and easing of environment regulations in the name of donor funded community development by World Bank, Asian Development Bank, USAID/USDA, WHO etc). There are differences in terms of Gender, caste, class as well as religion. Being a divese state, it becomes quite challenging in itself to address local issues and generate people centric advocacy
